Willustrating &
Body Positivity
50 boobs drawn from the 50 states in America, that's how it began. Five years later, at least 38 countries have Willustrating nude art, and at least 3000 people have been drawn.
But it's still the beginning, here's how you can get involved.
Confidence in art
For as long as art has been made, it's been used as a conduit of the self. To see a person in a different context, to see yourself from the outside. My work aims to give that experience to as many people as want it, and to demonstrate, through the mass of artwork produced, that we're all quite ordinary in the bodies we have.
Getting involved is easy
Commissions aren’t the only way to see yourself in Willustrating art, I regularly run projects aimed at introducing people to the concept of becoming art. Keep an eye on my twitter page to see what I'm up to on a daily basis or check out what's currently going on here!
THE VULVA PROJECT
100 people from around the world took part in the vulva project, most of whom had never been drawn before.
This massive project demonstrated two things in particular, we're all different in that we're all the same. There is no normal, there is only vulva.
Rosa
"The confidence Will gives me through her art is surreal. Thanks for helping me learn to love and appreciate my body"
Nicki
"I love this so much - I've never seen my body in such a light to where I can adore it"
Jess
"I have framed pictures that Will drew of me hanging in my house and I'm in love with them, I use them to remind myself I'm hot as shit when I get down on myself"
normalising human nature through art
While not mutually exclusive, a lack of body positivity can often bring about negative feelings and guilt around sex, my work with animation brings my vulva drawings to life to show the fun you can have with your body!
The Power of a Naked Community
A word that often comes up when working in body positive arts is 'healing', the art is a step in a journey a lot of us are currently on. I count myself among that too because I've drawn myself, I know the power of art and the power of seeing yourself in it. Body positive art works best when it involves real people, when you know the people behind the drawings are real, it bridges a gap, you aren't just looking at a drawing of a body, you're looking at a human, a human that may share a feature of yours you're self conscious about and it may make you feel a ton better about yourself in an instant; and when you get drawn, someone else will see it and go through the same journey, we become a community through our shared features and the more people join the community the less we feel alone in the features we most feel self conscious of.
